I have a great new activity packet for children with moderate-to-severe apraxia or young children with severe speech sound disorders. The activity is designed to help children  build progressively longer utterances. Each stimulus item starts with a single word, then progresses to a 2-word utterance that contains the same word, then a 3-word utterance that contains the same 2-word phrase from the step before. For example, “boot,” “boot on,” “boot on mommy.”

Each stimulus builds on itself to make it easier for children that need to practice the same motor plan many times. Each utterance contains CV, VC, CVC, VCV, and CVCV words that use only the consonant sounds /h, w, p, b, m, t, d, n/. I did include a few words, such as “water” and “bubble” that are frequently simplified so that they end with a vowel sound (“buh-boh”). Each utterance contains a total of 3-5 syllables. There are 40 different stimulus items included (that’s 40 different 3-word utterances).

I also included a blank page with the utterance building template (page 22)  so that you can make your own 1, 2, and 3 word phrases.

The final four pages contain all the single words that are included in the stimulus items. You can use these cards to practice single words before building longer utterances or use them with the utterance building template to create your own phrases. Just print the cards 3 times so that you have enough copies of each word to make a 1, 2, and 3 word utterance. There are 63 total words!
